Background: I received my doctorate degree (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited program at Alliant International University, California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. My professional journey has been shaped by diverse experiences across both outpatient and inpatient mental health settings in addition to academic and school settings. One of my passions lies in serving marginalized and underserved communities, particularly Asian American and Pacific Islander populations. Throughout my career, I have focused on providing culturally sensitive therapy and have experience working with immigrants, refugees, and individuals requiring interpretation services. I also have experience working with individuals facing acculturation challenges, cultural identity concerns, and issues stemming from colonialism. These experiences have honed my ability to address complex cultural dynamics within therapy and foster resilience in clients navigating these challenges. My pre-doctoral training in Hawaii also provided me with invaluable insights into the unique needs of Native Hawaiian populations. This experience has deeply influenced my therapeutic approach, emphasizing cultural humility and sensitivity in my practice. In therapy, I utilize evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). However, I also integrate other modalities to create a personalized treatment approach that respects the individuality of each client.
Therapeutic approach: I’m committed to providing a therapeutic environment where you feel safe, understood, and accepted without judgment. As a therapist, I believe in the transformative power of creating a space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences freely. Central to my approach is the cultivation of a strong therapeutic alliance. I understand that the relationship between therapist and client is crucial for effective therapy. By building trust and rapport, we can work together to navigate the complexities of your life. I recognize the presence of power differences in the therapy room and strive to ensure that our interactions are characterized by mutual respect and collaboration. Your voice and perspective are valued, and I am here to support you in asserting your agency and autonomy. Furthermore, I am sensitive to the unique cultural contexts that shape our understanding of mental health, particularly within Asian and Pacific Islander communities. I acknowledge and address the stigma surrounding mental health in these populations, and I am committed to providing care with cultural humility. My approach is client-centered, meaning that I meet you where you are in your journey. Together, we will explore your challenges and strengths, working towards your goals and aspirations. Whether you are navigating personal struggles or seeking to enhance your relationships, I am here to support you every step of the way.
