Dr. Gutierrez is a general psychiatrist with over 30 years experience in treating mental health issues. She graduated from UCLA with a BS in microbiology and immunology. She attended Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, then completed her internship and psychiatry residency at Harbor-UCLA Hospital. During residency, she developed an interest in outpatient Consultation and Liaison psychiatry. After graduating residency, she set up a private practice in Manhattan Beach, California for 20 years and practiced general psychiatry and developed an expertise in treating patients with combined chronic medical conditions and psychiatric disorders. In 2009, she decided to close her private practice and combine her interests of microbiology/immunology and psychiatry and love of teaching and accepted a position as Assistant Director of HIV Psychiatry at Harbor-UCLA. There she was in charge of the clinical aspects of the HIV Psychiatry Service and in charge of training medical students, and psychiatry residents. She also was supervising psychiatrist for nurse practitioners and psychiatry residents. In 2017, she retired from that position and has worked in various locum tenens positions around the city, including Cal State University, San Bernardino where she worked in student health, treating college students.
