Feelings of psychological and physiological stress are normal adaptive responses to stressors in our environment, but over time chronic stress can be life threatening and cause impairments in almost all areas of life. Poor breathing habits from chronic stress also exacerbates the problem.
Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Biofeedback measures stress responses and provides immediate feedback using non-invasive sensors and computer software. Learning a specific way to alter breathing patterns with the use of biofeedback helps achieve balance of the autonomic nervous system. In simple terms we can learn to recover more quickly from fight or flight responses and become more resilient and adaptable to life’s ever-changing demands. In the video below, Dr. Michael Linden provides an overview of how biofeedback works.
