Psychological Associate

Kenji Miyamoto, Ph.D.

Not everyone may need to see a therapist; however, it is my belief that everyone can benefit from working with one. Just as the proper personal trainer can help one reach and maintain their physical goals, a skilled therapist can be just what an individual needs to achieve their mental health goals. As a staunch advocate of breaking stigmas and psychotherapy, it is my goal to help all of my patients feel welcome and heard, without judgment, in order for them to become the best version of themselves. Therapeutic Approach: Often times we may feel stuck in the same place or find ourselves repeating the same mistakes. My integrated treatment approach combines traditional psychoanalytic perspectives to help identify unhelpful underlying patterns and cycles with contemporary innovations in cognitive behavioral and neuropsychological perspectives that foster the connection between mind and body. I have a background helping people with the following issues:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Relationship/Family Issues
  • Issues with mood and emotions
  • Alcohol and substance use
  • Cultural Identity and assimilation issues

Background: I received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and MA in psychology from Pepperdine University. I have been serving the Los Angeles community since 2008, with my pre-doctoral training at Tarzana Treatment Centers and my previous employment as a substance abuse specialist at the Asian American Drug Abuse Program. As a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) Divisions for Social Justice, I am firmly committed to fostering a strong sense of identity, welcoming patients from all backgrounds, beliefs, and gender identities.
