Psychological Assistant

Katherine Sheu, Psy.D.

Therapeutic Approach: Sometimes life goes the way we hope it would go and sometimes it doesn’t. As people, we are resilient, and we have learned ways to work through these curveballs. However, there are times when these curveballs may overwhelm us, and we may feel stuck. When you feel overwhelmed and stuck, I can help support you to get unstuck. I believe that you can get unstuck by exploring more about who you are and what you have experienced in life that has brought you to become who you are today. In exploring more about who you are, being vulnerable and open is vital in the process, and because this can be a scary and uncomfortable experience I provide a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental environment for you to share and be open with your thoughts. I will support you in your journey to self-discovery and getting through these curveballs as much as you will allow me to. As the driver in your life, you decide the direction you will take in therapy. In our collaborative work together, I will empower you and encourage you to develop a strong sense of self so that you can face any challenges that come your way. In therapy, I use a Systemic view to provide Humanistic therapy, with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to support clients in reaching their goals. I have a background in addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, substance abuse, cultural, and family concerns. I also provide therapy in Mandarin and Japanese.

Background: I obtained my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles, with an emphasis in Family/Child and Couple Psychology. I completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Asian Pacific Family Center, providing individual and family therapy to the Asian and Asian American population in the San Gabriel Valley, California. During my graduate training, I provided individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in a variety of settings including outpatient, academic, and community mental health settings. I have also provided therapy with diverse populations focusing on multiculturalism.
